The
Miss India Kenya™ beauty pageant showcases the ‘Indian
Woman in Africa’. It was conceived to reflect the rich
tapestry of the culture and values of the Indian subcontinent
interwoven with traditions of her homeland, Kenya.
A terrific theme for sure from inception till date has seen
a sellout crowd at the grand finales. Just how popular the event
has become is evident when an imitation event did not even come
close to stealing its thunder in 2002. |
|
Thus with
time the “Miss India Kenya™” has become a much looked
forward-event on the Kenyan social calendar, attracting a participation
and audience from around the country.
‘East FM’ a popular Asian radio station and ‘Contact
Network’ conceived the idea to portray the vibrant ‘Kenyan
Asian Woman’.
Her skills are varied, from flaunting African, Asian and Western attire;
to her more poignant poetry recital, singing, acting and dancing skills.
The judges’ panel comprising of prominent citizens pick out
the winners.
The list of entries grows every year, each participant having either
parent of Indian Origin. Then, its lots of training, and she gets
the opportunity to learn new skills like Personal Grooming, Cat-walking,
Presentation, Etiquette and Stage Confidence- An entire Personality
Build-up!
Then through the year of their reign, the winners get to be active
ambassadors of the community in various spheres of the Kenyan life.
From Charity work to Inaugurations, their faces also adorn glossy
covers, and very soon they become household names in the country.
And every year the spectators throng the Preliminaries and the Finals,
to catch a glimpse of the Indian-Kenyan Beauty queen.
After all, she is one of our very own!
